Travel Safety for Women

For women who either have to or choose to travel alone, there are many risks that are present. This shouldn’t necessarily deter a woman from being adventurous but there are some safety precautions that one should take if traveling in this fashion.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings

Always know where you are and what is around you. Women are sometimes stereotyped as having no sense of direction and in this case you need to prove it wrong. We all get lost sometimes but even in this case, it is important to notice the people who are around you and the type of buildings, shops or other interesting sites that are there. Being aware is one the most important elements of keeping safe.

Clutch Your Purse

Don’t let your purse hang by your side. You might feel safe to do this in your home town, but if you are a tourist and look like one then you may become a target for theft. Keep your bag clutched under your arm. If you have a longer strap on the purse, put it over one shoulder and clutch it on the opposite hip. Always have the bag completely closed. Never keep your passport, wallet, or other personal documents and property near the top or outward facing side.

Be aware to not have too much jewellery on where you can easily become a target.  Many women today are wearing charm bracelets from such brands as love links , they are beautiful but can also become a target of theft.  If you have any expensive ones on your bracelet it is suggested to take them off just in case.

Become an Actress

This might sound odd, but if you are one of those ladies, who do not wish to be bothered by men, wear a makeshift wedding ring if you’re single. If you feel you are being followed, go to a public area and act as if you are waiting for someone. Use your best judgment in these situations. In many cases the person following will leave after some time but if they do stay, either pretend to call someone from your cell phone to arrange a meeting place with them and call for a cab to go elsewhere or obtain help from someone that is trustworthy such as a police officer or even a door greeter if there is one nearby
